Plus loads more benefits...

  • Trip Cancellation or Interruption: If blizzards, lift closures, airport strikes or motorway pile-ups leave you stranded for more than 12 hours or force you to cancel, we’ll refund reasonable extra transport and accommodation costs to keep your snowboarding trip on track.
  • Emergency Travel Assistance: 24/7 support for urgent medical needs, evacuation or repatriation, wherever your winter adventure takes you.
  • Natural Catastrophe Cover: When avalanches, landslides or officially declared storms close the resort or trigger evacuation, we cover extra travel and temporary accommodation so you can ride out safely.
  • Adventure Bundle: Additional coverage for other high-risk activities like trekking travel insurance with helicopter rescue.

Why do I need snowboarding travel insurance?

Snow resorts aren’t cheap clinics or kit shops. One snapped board or broken bone can set you back a small fortune. Here’s why our snowboarding travel insurance pays for itself:

  • On-piste medical & mountain rescue: A fractured collarbone or twisted knee can rack up £5,000–£10,000 in clinic fees and heli-lift charges. We’ll settle the bills and arrange evacuation through our 24/7 assistance team.
  • Equipment, lift-pass & hire-gear cover: Whether your board, bindings or helmet go missing (or your lift-passes vanish) we reimburse repair or replacement at current value so you’re back on the slopes fast.
  • Trip disruption & piste-closure refunds: White-out blizzards, avalanche controls or lift breakdowns can shut the resort. We pay daily allowances for alternative travel or refund unused lessons, lift-passes and snowboard packs.

One policy. One emergency hotline. Every snowboarder covered.

Snowboarding travel insurance FAQs

Do I still need snowboarding travel insurance if I carry a GHIC/EHIC card?

Yes. The card only gives you access to state-run medical care in the EU; it won’t pay for private mountain clinics, heli-rescue, repatriation flights or your £600 rental board. A dedicated snowboarding policy closes those expensive gaps.

What extras does Rise & Shield’s Winter Sports Cover add to a standard travel policy?

We dial up the medical limit, activate on-mountain evacuation (including helicopters), reimburse lost or damaged boards, refund unused lift-passes, lessons and snowboard packs, and even pay daily allowances if the resort shuts. Regular travel insurance usually stops at general medical bills and baggage.

Is off-piste or back-country snowboarding covered?

Guided or in-bounds off-piste is covered as long as you follow local rules (and stick with a qualified guide where one’s required).

When should I buy snowboarding travel insurance?

The moment you pay the trip deposit. Cancellation, airline-strike and snow-closure cover kick in as soon as the policy is issued, protecting your money long before the first flakes fall.

How much does snowboarding travel insurance cost?

Premiums flex with trip length, your age, destination, cover limits and any extras (like gadget cover or adventure upgrades).

A week in the Alps often starts at roughly the price of a mountain-top pizza; North America costs a little more thanks to steeper medical fees. Grab a quick quote online to nail down the number.

Will my policy pay for a helicopter rescue?

It will, provided you or a companion ring our 24/7 Assistance Centre first so we can pre-authorise the lift-out and arrange direct billing with the rescue team. A fixed excess applies.
