Rise & Shield is trusted by reputable tour operators and adventure companies

What does our off-piste ski insurance cover?

At Rise & Shield, one add-on delivers full-stack protection for every run, groomers, tree lines and side-country stashes alike.

Medical Emergencies and Evacuation

Worldwide emergency treatment, hospital bills and repatriation, plus helicopter rescue. That’s travel insurance covering off-piste skiing that won’t leave you footing the med-evac bill.

Equipment Loss or Damage

Protection for valuable gear, including skis, helmets, and avalanche safety equipment, against theft, loss, or damage.

Off-piste skiing & snowboarding

Cover for skiing or riding off-piste within resort boundaries (or with a guide where required) giving you the best off-piste ski insurance for powder missions. Remote terrain, racing, time-trials and endurance events remain off-limits.

Plus loads more benefits...

  • Trip Cancellation or Interruption: Blizzards, air-traffic strikes or motorway pile-ups delay you 12+ hours or force you to scrap the trip? We’ll reimburse reasonable extra transport and accommodation to keep your ski break alive.
  • Emergency Travel Assistance: One call to our medical team unlocks round-the-clock advice, hospital co-ordination, evacuation or repatriation, anywhere you’re carving turns.
  • Natural Catastrophe cover: If avalanches, landslides or officially declared storms shut the resort or trigger an evacuation, we pay additional travel and temporary lodging so you stay safe.
  • Adventure add-ons: Upgrade to our Adventure or Extreme Adventure packs for trekking up to 6,000m, and 200-plus other adrenaline hits.
  • Baggage Coverage: Protection for your personal belongings against loss or damage.

Why pay for off-piste ski insurance?

Ski patrols don’t hand out freebies, and a slip outside the ropes can torch a holiday budget faster than you can say “first tracks”.

Here’s why Rise & Shield’s travel insurance covering off-piste skiing earns its keep:

  • Mountain medical & heli-evac bills vanish: Emergency treatment abroad, plus worldwide evacuation and repatriation.
  • Gear & lift-pass cover that actually buys new kit: We’ll reimbursedamaged or stolen skis/boards and a lost pass, so one rogue baggage handler doesn’t nuke the season.
  • Trip disruption & piste-closure payouts: White-out blizzards, lift breakdowns or avalanche control shut the resort? You get paid daily for alternative travel or refunds on the days you can’t ride.

Off-piste ski insurance FAQs

Do I need a special add-on for off-piste cover?

Yes. Off-piste skiing or snowboarding sits inside our Winter Sports add-on. Bolt it onto any Rise & Shield travel plan and you’re good to go off-piste.

Will I be covered if I ski off-piste without a guide?

Only where the resort allows unguided off-piste. If local rules say “take a guide”, you must hire one or cover stops. Think of it as “off-piste ski insurance without a guide” when permitted, “with a guide” when required

Does the policy include heli-skiing or remote back-country routes?

No. Remote terrain, heli-drops, racing, time trials and endurance events fall outside our cover. Stick to resort-accessible areas for peace of mind.

Is my gear insured while I’m off-piste?

Yes. We cover skis/boards and other kit (owned or rented) and lost lift-passes.

Does the cover work for off-piste snowboarding too?

Absolutely. Our off-piste snowboard insurance comes as part of the same Winter Sports add-on with identical limits, and rules.

Are there seasonal cut-offs I should know about?

Yes. Trips outside 1 Nov–30 Apr (North) or 1 May–30 Sep (South) aren’t covered under Winter Sports, and claims during those windows will be declined.
