Skydiving / parachuting is covered with Adventure Plus for one tandem jump only. You must be with a professional, qualified and licensed guide, instructor or operator. Rise & Shield is trusted by reputable tour operators and adventure companies
Does Rise & Shield cover skydiving?
Yes. Rise & Shield can cover one tandem skydive when you select Adventure Plus.
The jump must meet the applicable activity conditions, including the professional instructor or operator requirement.
Do I need Adventure Plus for skydiving?
Yes. Skydiving / parachuting is classified as an Adventure Plus activity.
Adventure Plus must be included on your policy for the eligible tandem skydive to fall within the activity cover.
Do I need to jump with an instructor?
Yes. You must be with a professional, qualified and licensed guide, instructor or operator.
Follow their instructions as well as the applicable local laws, safety procedures and rules.
How many skydives can I make?
The current activity wording allows one tandem jump only.
Do not assume that a second jump on the same day or later in your trip is covered under the skydiving activity entry.
What kinds of skydiving are not covered?
Cover is limited to an eligible tandem jump, so solo or other non-tandem skydiving should not be assumed to be covered.
BASE jumping, wingsuit flying, competitions and professional or semi-professional participation are also not covered.
Do Personal Accident and Public Liability cover apply while skydiving?
No. Personal Accident and Public Liability do not apply while you are participating in activities covered under Adventure, Adventure Plus or Adventure Extreme.
Other eligible policy sections, including emergency medical expenses, may still apply subject to their terms and conditions.
What if I’m injured and need medical evacuation?
Eligible emergency medical treatment and evacuation may be covered following a sudden and unforeseen injury, subject to your plan, policy terms and activity conditions.
Medical evacuation and repatriation must be handled through the 24/7 Emergency Assistance Centre. If helicopter rescue is medically required, pre-approval and a separate helicopter rescue excess apply.

Skydiving insurance FAQs
What is skydiving travel insurance?
Skydiving travel insurance is travel insurance that includes an eligible skydive alongside benefits such as emergency medical expenses, medical evacuation and repatriation, cancellation, travel disruption and emergency assistance.
With Rise & Shield, the current activity wording covers one tandem skydive with Adventure Plus, subject to the applicable activity and policy conditions.
Does travel insurance cover skydiving?
It can, but skydiving is not automatically included by every travel insurance policy.
Rise & Shield specifically lists skydiving / parachuting for tandem jumps only under Adventure Plus, with a one-jump limit and the applicable professional instructor or operator condition.
Does Rise & Shield cover tandem skydiving?
Yes. An eligible tandem skydive can be covered when Adventure Plus is included on your policy.
The current activity entry is limited to one tandem jump and requires you to be with a professional, qualified and licensed guide, instructor or operator.
Does skydiving insurance also cover parachuting?
Rise & Shield groups “Skydiving / Parachuting” together in the same activity entry.
The same limitations therefore apply: tandem jumps only, Adventure Plus, special condition (a) and only one jump.
Do I need Adventure Plus for skydiving?
Yes. Skydiving / parachuting is classified as an Adventure Plus activity under the current Rise & Shield policy wording.
The appropriate premium must be paid for the required activity cover to apply.
Is skydiving included as standard with Rise & Shield travel insurance?
No. Skydiving is not part of the standard Adventure activity level.
You need the Adventure Plus add-on for the eligible tandem skydive.
How many skydives are covered?
The current skydiving / parachuting activity entry states “Only 1 jump.”
Do not assume that multiple jumps are covered simply because they take place on the same holiday, at the same drop zone or with the same instructor.
Can I make a second tandem skydive on the same trip?
Do not rely on the policy for a second jump. The current skydiving activity entry allows only one jump.
If you are planning more than one skydive, you will need cover that expressly allows multiple jumps or written confirmation that your intended activity is insured.
Does the one-jump allowance reset on another day or another trip?
The current activity wording simply states “Only 1 jump” and does not say that the allowance resets each day or for a later trip.
If you intend to make more than one jump during the period of insurance, confirm the position with Rise & Shield before relying on cover.
Do I need to skydive with an instructor?
Yes. The skydiving entry carries special condition (a), which requires you to be with a professional, qualified and licensed guide, instructor or operator and follow their instructions.
A tandem jump without the required professional supervision should not be assumed to be covered.
What qualification does my skydiving instructor need?
The policy does not name one universal skydiving qualification.
It requires the guide, instructor or operator to be professional, qualified and licensed, so the exact licensing or certification will depend on the country, operator and applicable local rules.
Can a first-time skydiver be covered?
Potentially, yes. The current activity wording does not require previous skydiving experience for an eligible tandem jump.
You must still have Adventure Plus, jump with the required professional instructor or operator, follow the safety rules and meet all other policy and operator requirements.
Can an experienced skydiver use this cover for a tandem jump?
Potentially, yes. Previous experience does not prevent an eligible traveller from taking a covered tandem jump.
The important limitation is that the covered activity remains one tandem jump; experience does not extend the policy to solo or multiple jumps.
Is solo skydiving covered?
No. The current activity entry specifically limits skydiving / parachuting to tandem jumps only.
Solo jumps should therefore not be assumed to be covered under this policy.
Is Accelerated Freefall (AFF) skydiving covered?
No AFF activity is specifically listed in the current Rise & Shield activity wording, and the skydiving entry is restricted to tandem jumps only.
Because AFF normally involves training towards or making non-tandem jumps, do not rely on the tandem skydiving cover for an AFF course or jump.
Is static-line parachuting covered?
The current skydiving / parachuting entry is restricted to tandem jumps only.
Static-line parachuting should therefore not be assumed to fall within the listed skydiving cover.
Is a skydiving course covered?
Not as a general category. The current activity wording covers one tandem jump only.
A course involving AFF, static-line training, solo jumps or multiple jumps falls outside that simple tandem-jump entry and should not be assumed to be insured.
Is BASE jumping covered?
No. BASE jumping is not listed as a covered activity under the current policy, and Section 11 excludes activities that are not listed under the applicable activity levels.
The live Rise & Shield Activity Checker also specifically lists BASE jumping among activities that are not covered.
Is wingsuit flying covered?
No. Wingsuit flying is not listed as a covered activity under the current policy, and Section 11 excludes activities that are not listed under the applicable activity levels.
The live Rise & Shield Activity Checker also lists wingsuit activity among activities that are not covered.
Is indoor skydiving covered?
Indoor skydiving is not specifically listed in the current policy activity table or live Activity Checker.
Do not assume that wind-tunnel flying automatically follows the outdoor tandem-skydiving rules; check the exact activity with Rise & Shield before relying on cover.
Are charity tandem skydives covered?
Potentially, yes, if the jump remains an amateur, non-competitive tandem skydive and meets the normal Adventure Plus conditions.
Raising money for charity does not by itself change the activity rules, but professional participation, competitions and other excluded circumstances remain outside cover.
Are skydiving competitions covered?
No. Activities are covered on an amateur basis only, and the policy excludes competitions and tournaments.
A competitive skydive should not be treated as an ordinary covered tandem jump.
Can professional or semi-professional skydivers use this cover?
Not for professional or semi-professional participation.
The Activities section specifically excludes activities undertaken on a professional or semi-professional basis.
Can a skydiving instructor be covered while working?
Not for professional participation as a skydiving instructor.
The policy's activity cover is for amateur participation and excludes professional or semi-professional activity.
Do I need to use skydiving safety equipment?
Yes. The general Activities conditions require you to follow safety procedures and rules and use recommended safety equipment and protective clothing.
You must also follow the instructions of the professional guide, instructor or operator where the activity condition requires one.
What if I ignore my skydiving instructor's instructions?
The Activities conditions require you to follow the instructions of the professional, qualified and licensed guide, instructor or operator.
Ignoring those instructions could mean you have not complied with an activity condition, so you should not assume a resulting claim would be covered.
Can I use Rise & Shield skydiving insurance abroad?
Potentially, yes. The policy can cover eligible travel within the geographical limits shown on your policy, subject to destination restrictions and all other terms and exclusions.
Your tandem skydive must also comply with local laws and the Adventure Plus activity conditions.
Can I use the cover for skydiving in places such as Dubai, New Zealand, Australia or the USA?
Potentially, provided the destination falls within the geographical limits of your policy and is not otherwise excluded.
The particular drop zone and jump must still satisfy the tandem-only, one-jump, professional instructor or operator and other applicable conditions. Destination eligibility should be checked when you obtain your quote.
Is there an age limit for skydiving travel insurance?
Yes. Under the current policy wording, no section of the policy applies to a person who has reached age 71 at the commencement of the period of insurance.
The skydiving operator may also impose its own age or fitness requirements, which are separate from the travel insurance rules.
What if the drop zone has its own age, weight or medical requirements?
You must meet the operator's requirements as well as the insurance conditions.
Travel insurance does not guarantee that a skydiving operator will accept you for a jump, so check the drop zone's age, weight, health and participation rules before booking.
Does skydiving travel insurance cover emergency medical treatment?
Eligible medical expenses following a sudden and unforeseen illness or injury abroad may be covered, subject to your selected plan, policy limits, terms, exclusions and excesses.
For an injury arising from skydiving, the jump must also satisfy the applicable Adventure Plus activity conditions.
What happens if I am injured during a skydive abroad?
Seek appropriate emergency medical treatment and contact the 24/7 Emergency Assistance Centre as soon as possible for a serious emergency.
The policy requires the assistance service to be contacted for inpatient treatment, MRI or CT scans, medical evacuation or repatriation, subject to the timing requirements in the policy.
Will Rise & Shield pay the hospital directly after a skydiving accident?
In most cases involving hospitalisation, direct payments can be made locally.
Minor illnesses or accidents may need to be paid by you first and reclaimed afterwards, subject to the policy terms and claims procedure.
Is medical evacuation and repatriation covered after a skydiving accident?
Eligible medical evacuation and repatriation may be covered where a sudden and unforeseen illness or injury makes it medically necessary.
The 24/7 Emergency Assistance Centre must be involved, and the medical assistance team determines whether evacuation or repatriation is required and the appropriate method.
Is helicopter evacuation covered after a skydiving accident?
An eligible helicopter evacuation may be covered when it is medically necessary and pre-approved by the 24/7 Emergency Assistance Centre.
The assistance team decides the method and provider for helicopter evacuation based on the medical circumstances.
Is there an excess for medical helicopter rescue?
Yes. The current separate helicopter-rescue excess is £1,000 / $1,250 / €1,200 when a helicopter is required for medical reasons.
Is 24/7 emergency assistance included?
Yes. Rise & Shield's emergency medical assistance service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
For policies purchased after 13 March 2026, the current emergency assistance provider is Compass Point Assist.
Does skydiving travel insurance include cancellation and curtailment cover?
Eligible unrecoverable travel and accommodation costs may be covered when an insured event makes cancellation or curtailment necessary and unavoidable, subject to your selected plan and the policy terms.
Skydiving being an eligible activity does not mean every cancelled or missed jump is itself covered.
Can I cancel my trip if a doctor says I am medically unfit to travel before my skydive?
Potentially. The Cancellation section can cover eligible travel and accommodation costs where an unforeseen bodily injury or illness makes cancellation necessary and unavoidable, subject to the policy conditions and medical evidence requirements.
A separately booked one-day skydive is treated differently from the wider travel and accommodation costs and should not automatically be assumed to be reimbursable.
Can I claim if my skydive is cancelled because of bad weather or high winds?
Not simply because the weather prevents the jump.
The Cancellation and Curtailment section excludes loss arising directly or indirectly from adverse weather conditions, so a weather-grounded skydive is not an automatic cancellation claim.
What if the skydiving operator or drop zone cancels my jump?
There is no general policy benefit simply because the activity provider fails to supply the booked service.
The Cancellation section excludes failure by a provider to supply part of the booked trip and costs recoverable from another source, so you should first seek any refund or rebooking available from the operator.
Is the cost of a cancelled one-day skydive covered?
A separately booked one-day skydive should not be assumed to be covered by the Cancellation benefit.
The current wording specifically excludes the costs of one-day tours, excursions, rental vehicles or activities booked separately from the main trip arrangements.
What if my tandem skydive forms part of a multi-day adventure package?
Different cancellation rules can apply where a qualifying multi-day tour or activity forms a material part of the trip and was booked before departure.
A cancellation claim would still need to arise from an insured event and satisfy the policy conditions. The skydiving activity itself remains subject to the one-tandem-jump Adventure Plus rules.
Does skydiving insurance cover travel delay or missed departure?
Depending on your selected plan and circumstances, benefits may apply for qualifying outward delay, missed departure or connection and abandonment.
These benefits have specific transport-related triggers, waiting periods, evidence requirements and limits; they are not general protection for every delay affecting your skydiving plans.
Will missed-departure cover pay if I arrive late for my skydive?
Not simply because you miss your jump time.
The policy's missed-departure or connection benefit applies to defined disruption affecting the transport used to commence or continue your pre-booked trip. It is not a general reimbursement benefit for a missed drop-zone appointment.
Does Catastrophe Cover apply if a storm closes the drop zone?
Not merely because the drop zone closes.
Catastrophe Cover requires a qualifying event such as a storm, flood, earthquake or fire to force you to move accommodation. Closure or cancellation of the skydive itself is not the trigger described by that benefit.
Is my parachute or skydiving equipment automatically covered?
No blanket skydiving-equipment benefit applies.
The Personal Luggage section excludes damage to sports equipment while it is being used and items that are loaned, hired or entrusted to you. Equipment supplied by a tandem operator should therefore not be assumed to be insured by your travel policy.
Is hired skydiving equipment covered?
Do not rely on the Personal Luggage section for hired equipment.
Items that are loaned, hired or entrusted to you are excluded, even though the eligible tandem skydiving activity itself may be covered.
Are my helmet or altimeter covered?
Do not assume they are automatically protected in every circumstance.
The policy excludes damage to sports equipment while it is being used, and hired or loaned items are also excluded. The treatment of an owned item can depend on what it is, the cause of loss or damage and the applicable luggage conditions.
Is my GoPro or action camera covered while skydiving?
Cameras and other specified personal electronics can potentially be insured under the optional High-Value Items add-on, subject to its item limits, age, security, evidence and other conditions.
Do not assume that a hired camera, an operator's equipment or every type of damage occurring during the jump is automatically covered.
Are my phone, camera or other personal electronics covered on the trip?
Personal electronics such as cameras, laptops and mobile phones can be covered through the optional High-Value Items add-on when the item is properly specified and the relevant conditions are met.
The add-on has its own item limits, depreciation, security, evidence and exclusion rules.
Do Personal Accident and Public Liability cover apply while I am skydiving?
No. The policy states that Personal Accident and Public Liability do not apply while you are participating in activities covered under Adventure, Adventure Plus or Adventure Extreme.
Other eligible sections, including emergency medical expenses and medical evacuation, may still apply subject to their terms.
Does skydiving travel insurance cover pre-existing medical conditions?
Claims arising from conditions that meet the policy definition of a pre-existing medical condition are excluded.
Being accepted by a skydiving operator or being medically fit enough to jump does not override the policy's medical exclusions.
Can I buy skydiving travel insurance after my trip has already started?
Potentially, yes. Eligible travellers who have already left home may be able to purchase the optional Already Departed cover, provided nothing happened before purchase that could lead to a claim.
An additional premium and special Already Departed conditions apply, and this option is not available with Annual Multi-Trip policies.
How does the 48-hour waiting period for Already Departed cover work?
Full Already Departed cover begins after a 48-hour waiting period.
During that period, cover is limited to sudden accidental injuries that can be verified, and the policy contains additional exclusions. Do not assume that buying the policy immediately before a planned skydive gives you the same cover as arranging it before departure.
Can I buy Annual Multi-Trip insurance if I plan to skydive?
Potentially, provided Adventure Plus is included and the planned skydive meets the activity conditions.
However, the skydiving entry itself states only one jump and does not explain that this allowance resets on each annual trip. If you are planning multiple skydiving trips or jumps, confirm the position with Rise & Shield before relying on an Annual Multi-Trip policy.
Can a Single Trip policy cover a holiday that includes a tandem skydive?
Potentially, yes. One eligible tandem skydive can form part of a Single Trip policy when Adventure Plus is included and all activity conditions are met.
The current wording states that a Single Trip cannot exceed 30 days.
Can one policy cover skydiving and other adventure activities?
Potentially, yes. Different eligible activities can be included during the same trip, with different activity levels or optional add-ons applying where required.
Check every planned activity individually because the conditions for skydiving, trekking, scuba diving, rafting and other adventures can be different.
What should I look for in the best skydiving travel insurance?
Look beyond a policy simply saying that “adventure sports” are covered. Check whether skydiving is specifically listed, whether cover is tandem-only, the maximum number of jumps, instructor requirements, emergency medical and evacuation cover, equipment exclusions, competition or professional exclusions, destination limits and trip-duration rules.
Those details determine whether the policy actually fits your planned jump.
When should I buy skydiving travel insurance?
It is generally sensible to arrange your policy once your trip is booked so that any eligible pre-departure cancellation protection can begin.
Buying before departure also avoids relying on the separate Already Departed conditions and 48-hour waiting period.
How do I check whether my exact skydive is covered?
Check your planned jump against the current Rise & Shield Activity Checker and your issued policy documents, including the tandem requirement, one-jump limit, Adventure Plus add-on and professional instructor or operator condition.
Also check the destination, trip dates and any other activities you plan to undertake. If anything is unclear, confirm it with Rise & Shield before relying on cover.
