Canoeing Insurance

Canoeing insurance built for rapids, portages and 12-nautical-mile runs.

We automatically cover flat-water paddling on inland rivers and coastal routes (within 12 nautical miles) at Grades 1–2 in every Single-Trip and Annual Multi-Trip plan we sell.

Rise & Shield is trusted by reputable tour operators and adventure companies

What does our canoeing insurance cover?

With Rise & Shield’s canoeing cover, we insulate every paddle stroke, from calm back-eddies to foamy drops. We built this policy for the river life, not beach-chair daydreams.

Medical Emergencies and Evacuation

We settle overseas hospital bills and, if a doctor calls it, arrange helicopter rescue or repatriation via our 24/7 assistance team, while you practise your “this wasn’t on the route card” face.

Equipment Loss or Damage

We cover your paddles, buoyancy aid, dry-bagged camera and other kit if they’re lost, stolen or accidentally trashed in transit. Travelling with pricier tech? Bolt on our High-Value Items rider for extra gadget peace of mind.

Travel Inconvenience Benefit

Flooded highways, missed portage buses, weather-pulled permits, when delays capsize your schedule, we refund reasonable extra transport and accommodation costs so you stay on course.

Plus loads more benefits...

  • Trip Cancellation or Curtailment: If a sudden injury, illness or family emergency forces you to pull the plug on your expedition (or head home early), we refund the non-recoverable travel and accommodation costs so you can regroup and re-plan without eating the entire bill.
  • Emergency Dental Cover: Chipped a tooth on a rogue paddle or roadside snack? We pay for urgent dental treatment abroad, right down to that temp crown, so you can bite back into your trip pain-free.
  • Natural Catastrophe Cover: Flooded campsite, wildfire evacuation or an officially declared storm makes your lodge unliveable? We cover the extra transport and replacement digs to keep your journey afloat when Mother Nature kicks off.

When do I actually need canoeing travel insurance?

Canoeing cover isn’t for genteel lake laps. It’s for the river-chasing itineraries where water levels, weather and logistics can all flip without warning.

We recommend grabbing a policy when:

  • Your route drifts beyond the easy-rescue zone. Remote gorges and sparsely populated coastlines mean helicopter evacuations aren’t cheap; we line up the transport and foot the bill so you can focus on staying afloat.
  • You’re travelling with kit you can’t afford to lose. Carbon paddles, GoPro, dry suit, if it vanishes in transit or gets smashed mid-portage, we sort the replacement or repair.
  • Permits, shuttles or accommodation are pre-paid. Flooded roads, strikes or guide cancellations can sink your schedule; our trip disruption cover refunds the non-refundable so Plan B doesn’t wreck the budget.
  • Local medical help is miles (or rapids) away. We front overseas hospital costs and arrange repatriation if a doctor says you’re too battered to finish the run.

Take the policy out before you launch, not after the mishap. We’ll keep the admin dull so the story on the water stays interesting.
