How Our Travel Insurance Cover Works

When you compare our adventure travel insurance plans, it helps to think in three simple steps.

Step 1: Choose your trip type

Select the trip type that matches your plans, such as a Single Trip or an Annual Multi Trip.

The period of insurance and maximum trip duration depend on the type of policy you buy. For example, Annual Multi Trip policies have a maximum trip length of 31 days with Essentials and 45 days with Plus and Elite.

Step 2: Pick a cover level

Next, choose one of our three cover levels: Essentials, Plus or Elite.

Each plan provides cover for benefits such as cancellation and curtailment, medical and related expenses incurred abroad, evacuation and repatriation, personal luggage, outward delay, personal accident, public liability, hijack and catastrophe cover, with different benefit limits and excesses.

Step 3: Add optional extras (if needed)

Finally, you can then add optional cover. These include:

  • Optional Winter Sports Cover,
  • the Activities Add-On (which includes the Optional Adventure Plus Pack and Optional Extreme Adventure Pack),
  • an Optional High-Value Items Add-on for selected valuables.

Which Plan is Right For My Trip?

When you compare our adventure travel insurance plans, it can help to think about three things: the total value of your prepaid trip costs, the type of trip you are taking, and how much protection you want for medical expenses, delays and baggage.

Each of our Essentials, Plus and Elite plans includes the same core sections of cover, but with different benefit limits.

Essentials: our core level of cover

Essentials provides our core level of cover, with lower benefit limits than Plus and Elite for sections such as Cancellation & Curtailment, Medical and related expenses incurred abroad, Baggage and Personal Effects, Outward Delay, Personal Accident, Public Liability, Hijack and Catastrophe Cover.

Essentials may be a good match if, for example:

  • The total amount you have prepaid for travel and accommodation is within the £3,000 Cancellation & Curtailment limit
  • You are comfortable with a £3,000,000 limit for Medical and related expenses incurred abroad and Evacuation and Repatriation as part of that section.
  • You want baggage cover but are content with lower limits for Baggage and Personal Effects and the £150 single item limit.

Please note that Delayed Departure benefits are not available under Essentials; only Missed Departure or Connection and Abandonment are covered under Outward Delay.

Plus: higher limits for many trips

Plus increases the limits available under Essentials for key sections.

Travellers often choose Plus when, for example:

  • Their prepaid trip costs are closer to or above the Essentials limit, and they prefer the higher £6,000 Cancellation & Curtailment cover.
  • They would like £6,000,000 Medical and related expenses and Evacuation and Repatriation cover, as shown in the Summary of Benefits.
  • They want higher baggage and single-item limits than Essentials provides, as well as enhanced limits for Money and Baggage Delay.
  • They want Delayed Departure cover under Outward Delay in addition to Missed Departure or Connection and Abandonment.

Elite: our highest cover limits

Elite offers our highest Cancellation & Curtailment limit and the highest Medical and related expenses limit.

Elite may be considered by travellers who:

  • Have significant prepaid travel and accommodation costs that would not be fully covered under the Essentials or Plus Cancellation & Curtailment limits.
  • Prefer the highest available Medical and related expenses limit, for example on trips where medical treatment or evacuation could be particularly expensive.
  • Are travelling with higher-value baggage and personal effects and want the higher limits shown in the Summary of Benefits.
